Presidents Message:
The League hit its
stride in October,
sponsoring two great
educational events with
widespread appeal.
Under Marylou Green's
skilled supervision, the
candidate forum provided
a perfect venue for
voters to evaluate the
candidates' positions
and to pose pressing
questions. Students and
adults alike queried the
candidates on a broad
range of topics
including affordable
housing, property tax
revaluation and fiscal
management. Armed
with new insight, we
voters will be able to
make informed decisions
at the polls this
Tuesday, November 3.
Please remember: "Your
Vote Counts" and lead by
example, encouraging
friends and family to
cast their votes.
The League also offered
the community an
opportunity to learn
about sustainability and
healthy eating at our
appropriately named,
Food for Thought
luncheon. Debra Lagapa
secured a marvelous
speaker, Jill
Isenbarger, Executive
Director of the Stone
Barns Center for Food &
Agriculture, and Anne
Lyons and her team
organized a perfect
lunch. The energy and
enthusiasm in the room
were palpable, and
guests were delighted by
the presentation and
seized the opportunity
to ask questions of the
expert. It is clear
that environmental
responsibility and
healthy living are top
priorities of our
members.
As I said at the
luncheon, you, our
members, are what
sustain us. Please
continue to support our
local League and
encourage your friends
to do so as well. If
you haven't yet sent in
your dues, please make
payment at your earliest
convenience. The
membership form can be
found on our website,
www.lwvs.org. We rely
upon your generosity to
continue to thrive.
We appreciate your
willingness to expand
the circle of League
members by reaching out
to others and including
them in our events.
On November 24 at 9:00
a.m. at the home of Ann
Sacher, 10 Kensington
Road, we will be hosting
our general membership
meeting to evaluate the
Village election
system. Our discussion
will follow the
consensus process, a
hallmark of the League,
and we welcome you to
attend to be a part of
the League in action.
And mark your calendars
now for the much beloved
Winter Fundraiser
scheduled for Saturday,
January 30 from 5 to 7
pm. Janice Starr has
graciously offered to
open her home to the
League, and we know the
evening will be warm and
wonderful.
Wishing you all the very
best as our holidays
fast approach, Jane
Veron

Membership Renewal a
High Priority Now
Our
membership renewal
campaign is in full
swing, and we need
your support now
more than ever. If
you have already
renewed your
membership for the
2009-2010 year, we
thank you most
sincerely. If
renewal has slipped
to the bottom of
your inbox, please
make this a priority
now. The League
thrives with your
financial support.
A broad base of
membership gives us
the resources to
take on the many
activities that add
so much to our
local, state, and
national civic
activities. Some of
the many local
issues we are
studying this year
include the
comprehensive plan
for the Village
Center, the proposed
development at
Heathcote Five
Corners, and
continued input into
the school and
Village budgets. We
also held a
Candidates Forum for
the November
elections and are
active in
encouraging youth to
become involved in
civic governance.
The LWVS does so
much with so few
resources. But we
do need the support
of each of you to
continue to carry
out our mission with
integrity. Please
renew your
membership today by
using the membership
envelope that was
mailed to you in the
spring, or by
visiting our
website,
www.lwvs.org and
printing a
membership renewal
form. We look
forward to your
continued support
for the current
year.
